[00:00:00] Speaker A: Foreign.
[00:00:10] Speaker B: Hello, welcome back to from 8bit to 4k.
We got a lot to talk about today, but before we jump into it, I'm Pillow Pet, your host this week and with me I have my two other co hosts. I have Mike and many names.
[00:00:24] Speaker C: He started eating one and now I want warheads.
[00:00:28] Speaker B: And we have Jax Omen.
[00:00:30] Speaker A: I have plenty of candy in my house, so I will just sate the craving later.
[00:00:33] Speaker B: I got three left and I'm gonna drag them out because I don't know if my mouth can handle them right now because I've had too many the last couple days.
[00:00:40] Speaker C: Burn your tongue.
[00:00:42] Speaker B: So shout out to our pillow.
[00:00:44] Speaker A: What I'm learning here is Pillow has a weak tongue that can't handle lots of sour candy.
[00:00:49] Speaker B: After so long it just starts to hurt and bleed.
[00:00:52] Speaker A: Pillow, embrace your inner child. I'm the oldest one here and I love sour candy.
[00:00:56] Speaker C: Still, to be fair, multip warheads will actually eat away at your tongue and start bleeding it.
[00:01:02] Speaker A: I could.
[00:01:03] Speaker B: That's what's happening to me. That's the problem is I ate like almost a whole bag in a sitting and it destroyed me. Anyways, we're derailing. Let's get through Patreon. Shout out. Patreon. Shout out to Codex Ninja Labana, Uncle ChrisCo and Skippius Esquire for supporting us at the shout out tier on Patreon.
Speaking of Patreon, we have one. You can support us at a one, five and ten dollar tier. One dollar will just tell us that you love us. Five dollars a month. We'll get you an exclusive feed of some behind the scenes audio for our prep work for each show. And $10 a month gets you that exclusive feed and you get that shout out that I just did that always. That will also extend to our other podcast, our League of Legends podcast, part of the four Words network.
Go check it out. If you have any interest in league or you are just finding this podcast in Play League, go check it out.
We have a discord description is in the episode description. I'm sorry, the link is in the episode description.
We talk all thing games in there. We have channels specifically for talking about games. We have general chat channels where everybody can just talk and hang out. We have plenty of league channels where you can get tons of knowledge and gripe about your bad games or your good games, whatever you want to do. We play lots of games together in there.
And it's not always just league that we're playing.
So before the derailment and I mentioned that we had a Lots to talk about tonight. It has been a busy couple weeks with announcements.
Specifically, we had BlizzCon, which Jax doesn't have a little, very little interest in any of that. So you're going to hear a lot of me and Mike talking there. And we also had a Nintendo direct.
And specifically in that Nintendo direct, we got the Ocarina of Time remake some gameplay finally.
So we're gonna go. We're gonna talk about some of the Nintendo direct, Ocarina of Time stuff and we're gonna talk about some of the blizzcon's stuff that was noteworthy.
Let's kick it off and let's go ahead and jump into the blizzcon so we can get Jackson here as soon as possible so he doesn't have to take a break. Halfway between.
So Blizzcon. Yeah, it just happened and there was a lot of wow discussion specifically, I want to just start off by saying Classic plus was announced, but it is called wow. Forever.
[00:03:44] Speaker C: Yeah, I'm guessing rephrasing it for it.
[00:03:47] Speaker B: So I'm guessing I'm taking it as like, hey, this is World of Warcraft forever, because you're forever going to be level 60 and the only thing that's ever going to change is we're going to add dungeons, raids and like zones for you, you to maybe quest in on your alts.
[00:04:01] Speaker C: So if from what people were talking about with it, forever is.
It is what they kind of wanted the original vanilla to be, and then it will forever be in a state of maintenance on it. It's going to maintain itself forever as this current system. It's not going to have huge updates. It's never going to go into bc. It's never going to.
[00:04:29] Speaker B: You're never going to leave Azeroth.
[00:04:31] Speaker C: Yeah. You're never going to progress beyond where it is.
What their desired goal for Forever really is stated to be is it's not meant to be. You're going to rush to level 60 and play the level 60 game.
They want you to recapture the original feel of just living in the game. And to that extent, they have done things like reworked how talents work. They've done changes to class, spec, combos. They've literally added like six zones that sort of felt like they should have been there originally but just weren't. So, like, hijou.
[00:05:06] Speaker B: Speaking of like, yeah, Hyjol's in there.
There's that one zone down there by. Oh, where is it at?
Just the small little sub zones that you would like, see on your map but could never actually Click. And it was just like uninteractable part of your.
[00:05:25] Speaker C: There's like a centaur one between Mulgore and.
[00:05:27] Speaker B: Yeah, I think. Or Feralis. Feralis or whatever it is.
So they're doing a lot of changes and they mentioned that this is going to take over, like a whole different timeline.
Like, this is a.
This is completely separate from retail timeline, which obviously, because we're not going to Outlands, you know, we're not worrying about Illidan, we're not worrying about Arthas, the Lich King, any of these big bads that exist in retail. So we're. They're getting ready. They're opening it up to where they can make a playground to do their own thing, which is kind of cool. So it's like a mix of sod and retail. Like, they're retailing classic. They're kind of combining them in graphical ways and they're giving you the freedom to, like, transmog. You can see it or you can't. Like, it's up to you. If you don't want to see people's transmog, that's great. You can see them in their clown outfits. I thought that was a great choice.
[00:06:24] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:06:25] Speaker B: There's Sky Elves, which I thought was interesting, but I'm not like a super. I'm not super against it. You know, it gives both sides, the elves and it gives them, you know, gives. It creates new lore. It's not like, here's the High Elves or blood elves. Like, they're not putting in blood elves because that's going to be sea area.
So they came up with a whole new race for this.
[00:06:50] Speaker C: There's like literally a thousand new quests. There's going to be. They've changed around a lot of the reward system, so, like, a lot of people wouldn't get rewards when they went through certain areas because your class isn't remarkably supported here, even though you can do this. So you don't get an item for like nine levels. So they've. They've changed some item rewards and things like that.
[00:07:13] Speaker B: They kept really excited about the added racials and the changes to professions.
[00:07:17] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:07:17] Speaker B: Because I think classic professions are where my favorite versions of professions they were
[00:07:23] Speaker C: definitely the most impactful, I think.
[00:07:27] Speaker B: But we'll, We'll. I'll have a beta access here in just a few days, so I'll be able to talk more about it in.
[00:07:33] Speaker C: We will talk about our first impressions next week because both of us will have a beta access by then and we'll have played for About a week.
[00:07:39] Speaker B: In two weeks we will talk about it.
[00:07:41] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:07:43] Speaker B: So we'll have plenty of time or we'll have plenty of experience behind it. Me and Mike, I'm sure we'll play together, get to experience this a little bit, do some dungeons because they added a bunch of lower level dungeons. Oh they added opening up and that turned into a dungeon.
And they continue. They continue to add more.
So yeah, we'll get more into it in two weeks. There's a lot more we want to talk about.
So Mike, jump into one of the things that you wanted to talk about before I get on my gush segment.
[00:08:11] Speaker C: I will do the short one first.
They talked about Hearthstone.
It's getting a monk cool new Hearthstone stuff. Hearthstone is actually like if you want to play one of the card collectors. Hearthstone is still very fun. You don't need to purchase unless you're doing like high end PvP ranked shit. And I fuck if I care about that Overwatch exists. I haven't played it in years. But it's getting more stuff and I guess I'll do the other the other minor one.
Maybe. Maybe you forgot about this game because Blizzard did for a while. Heroes of the Storm.
It's actually getting new stuff.
[00:08:49] Speaker B: I loved Heroes of the Storm.
[00:08:51] Speaker C: Heroes of the Storm was fun.
[00:08:52] Speaker B: I thought it was fun. I thought it was fun. It was a nice you know we
[00:08:55] Speaker C: have a league podcast.
[00:08:56] Speaker B: Another moment I didn't have to worry. I didn't have to worry about CSING or anything. I could just worry about PvP which was great.
[00:09:03] Speaker C: Yeah. So Xalatath is becoming a new champion. Xaltoth is a big character in classic in a modern well so like if
[00:09:11] Speaker B: you're toes I hope they have a toes skin.
[00:09:16] Speaker C: Well she shows up starting with feet going down. So there's your thing.
[00:09:25] Speaker B: So yeah I might jump back on here as a storm. Check it out. I think it's pretty fun. I think I will be too interesting.
So another thing that they shadow dropped at Blizzcon the day after the day one was Warcraft 3 got a whole new and I'm just gonna call it expansion because that's seemingly what it is right now. It's a whole new expansion and I was never expecting this. And it's only on the reforged it is explaining it talks about starts at when Arthas invades Lordaeron and it talks about Sylvanas raising the forsaken.
It's kind of the story where I'm at now.
It is has a Lot of content in it.
So the first prologue campaign kind of explaining how Lordaeron falls and gets to it introduces you to some, you know, important characters that you probably haven't heard about before.
Barrick somebody and some Lordaeron people that you don't probably hear about unless you read them in the lore books at World of Warcraft. So you get to play as them. They're awesome. The voice, dialogue, the. The emotion, like you can feel it. Like there's so much more that they've improved on from the original game as far as like the storytelling.
So I want to gush about it because of how much they've added to this game. I don't know what the standalone price is because it was included with my. Wow.
[00:11:01] Speaker C: Forever same same cost as the. The base. So the original, the Warcraft 3 Reforged, which is the base game plus the expansion is 29.99. This is also 29.99 if you buy it alone.
[00:11:18] Speaker B: Okay, so $30. So you're, you're. So far I'm in the first chapter, the Undead, talking about Sylvanas and I'm on chapter one and I've been in it for like four and a half hours and it doesn't play. I haven't built a single building in this chapter. It's not playing like your base management.
So far I got a little bit of that in a prologue, but there's been one level in the prologue where I build a base and built like units. And so far in my chapter one of the Sylvanas one, I'm going from the Undercity to Tirisfal Glades to the capital grounds of Lordaeron, the ruins and going into the sewers of Undercity. Just repeatedly doing quests, getting gold.
Like in learning the story it is like they're giving me quests. Like one of my quests was like, hey, go out and get some Dark Hound Blood and Murloc Scales. And I had to go find those camps. It plays like World of Warcraft does. Like at a top down.
[00:12:23] Speaker C: The orc levels from Warcraft 3's expansion.
[00:12:28] Speaker B: Yes, I've played all of Warcraft.
[00:12:29] Speaker C: That sounds like Thrall Sting.
[00:12:32] Speaker B: That's. It's almost playing exactly like that. This is just. It reminds me heavily of like World of Warcraft as far as like the gameplay of it. In this chapter I am in and this isn't the end of it. It's just taken me four and a half, five hours and I still haven't beat it. Like I have four Quests still I got to do. And I don't even know what's after that. Like they got vendors where I can go buy gear. They've upgraded the gearing system. Like there's a backpack now and a talent system for your hero. There's gear that you can equip for your hero that gives you uniques that don't just sit in your inventory and give you like an elemental attack and some armor. Like you actually equipped like a hedge chest, gloves, boots, rings, weapons offhands.
That's great.
So definitely if You're a Warcraft 3 fan and enjoy that, like check it out and especially if you're a lore nerd like I am for Warcraft, check it out. Like it explains a lot.
If you're interested in World of Warcraft forever, look at the bundle so you don't have to spend $30 alone. Then you're also buying Warcraft Forever. Like I already owned, reforged bought the bundle like so I'm kind of like losing some money there because I already own some of the things included and they don't discount their bundles.
[00:13:54] Speaker C: It's of essentially almost no cost if you were going to get the stuff for the base one.
[00:14:02] Speaker B: Wow. Forever.
[00:14:03] Speaker C: Yeah. Before you were just gonna get free stuff from it. So it's pretty great.
[00:14:07] Speaker B: So yeah, check it out.
I'll probably talk more about it in a couple weeks when I've had a chance to maybe beat it. I don't know, depends on how long it takes. But I hope not. I hope it's forever. I hope it takes forever to beat it because I really love a good rts.
All right. I gushed over it for a while. Mike, take off off on your big things.
[00:14:27] Speaker C: Okay, so the other big thing that I need to talk about really is the Diablo, the Diablo discussion because Diablo is getting two things coming for it, two major things coming for it and then a third announcement which is massive to start with. Diablo 4 is getting like its first massive major season update where they're doing a huge anniversary event where they're bringing back a bunch of stuff from previous Diablos.
There's a bunch of referential things to Diablo 2, Diablo 1, Diablo 3, they're bringing a lot of old things in into just one of the biggest seasons they've ever made.
Some of the content is almost expansion sized with how much stuff they put into it. They, they went all out with, with what they're trying to do here and then they put in like hidden little references. So if you were deep into Diablo 2 and like you, you knew the runes of some things and the combinations on those. You can make your own hidden items referencing those. So if you know you. If you know your past stuff, you'll get some extra free things. The next major thing that they announced through this is that they're finally giving another class win.
We got two more of them relatively recently. We got Warlock and we got Paladin with the expansion.
Now they're giving in and bringing the Amazon up to D4. The Amazon was a really awesome class in D2, and if they make it as clean to play as they've made a lot of the other things, this could be a completely new playstyle of game. Amazon was always really fun. It was never my favorite class because my favorite was always either a Necromancer or Druid. But hey, more classes is more content and that's real fun.
The announcement that I don't think anyone was looking for or considering at the time, Devil 5 was announced with a tentative release date of 2029 spring. Because you know, soon TM is their thing. So who knows if it actually is going to come out then.
Diablo 5 sounds so fucking interesting. The baseline premise for Diablo 5, you've lost, Diablo won and has taken over the world. Survive it. That's the baseline premise for D5 in comparison to everything else which has always been stop the primevals from doing their shit. No, you've already failed. How do you live in that world which will probably end up with you eventually defeating them because that's how they go.
[00:17:02] Speaker A: I was gonna say that seems like a good fit for the ARPG archetype, which is basically there is a town here and there, otherwise literally everything in the entire world is hostile.
[00:17:15] Speaker C: As far as I know there are no towns. The response to that was you're going to be end up making like camps that are roaming around the world. And that is your quote unquote little safe zone. They didn't really get to talk a lot of content about D5 because it's multiple years away.
And really this was more of a teaser than anything else. But it's. It sounds so fucking good. Oh, and I guess if you want to play Diablo 4 on Switch 2, that comes out today.
So you'll already be able to do it once you hear this. If you feel like another thing that
[00:17:51] Speaker B: got switch to another thing. I forgot to mention that got announced that I wasn't expecting a new Starcraft game. An open world shooter marked for 2030.
[00:18:02] Speaker C: So it is an open world. It is just a shooter game that
[00:18:07] Speaker B: they described as this open world.
[00:18:09] Speaker C: Didn't do too much description on it. They were very vague.
[00:18:12] Speaker B: Well, it's a shooter game. I'm going to assume that it's going to be somewhat open world.
[00:18:18] Speaker C: How many games nowadays aren't? Yeah.
[00:18:21] Speaker B: So look for that in 2030.
We probably won't ever talk about it again unless some major news comes out for it. So if that's something that interests you, you can now follow it.
[00:18:32] Speaker C: I hope we're still talking and playing this in 2030.
I hope we're still doing these things. So I hope we'll talk about it when we end up getting more info. But you won't hear about this for years, probably.
[00:18:44] Speaker A: At least until that'll be.
[00:18:47] Speaker B: We'll. We'll see you in 100 episodes chat. Yeah, we'll talk about it.
All right. Now for the moment Jax has been waiting for.
We get to bring Jax back in. It's been what, 25, 30? 25, 30 minutes in here.
[00:19:05] Speaker A: Ocarina of Time Mad. It's been like 15 minutes. 20 minutes.
[00:19:10] Speaker B: Ocarina of Time Remake Time.
Jax, kick us off. Let's hear your voice.
[00:19:17] Speaker A: Okay, so Nintendo announced a little while back that they were actually doing a remake.
We got more trailers, some explanation, and 15 minutes of curated gameplay footage.
So we know more now. They have confirmed there will be expanded dialogue. So it's not just like the lines that used to be there have been rewritten, but like there will be more dialogue than there was in the original game and it's voice acted. We know a couple of the voice actors, most notably, I think Matt Mercer is going to be Ganondorf.
[00:19:53] Speaker C: Yep.
[00:19:54] Speaker A: Which is awesome. He's a great choice for that.
[00:19:57] Speaker C: Yep.
[00:19:58] Speaker A: We don't know most of the cast yet and we don't know how expanded the dialogue is. Just that they said there's more. They've expanded some areas during the 15 minute gameplay preview. They did go to Hyrule Market Town. The like town before Hyrule Castle, inside the walls of Hyrule.
And it's now, instead of it being just like a 2D image that you could run around and then a couple of transitions to like shops. It's now a full area with NPCs, shops, whatnot. The same as like Kakariko villages.
[00:20:34] Speaker B: They've also. While we're on the expanded areas, I'm going to throw in the geography changes. They've kind of retconned some of the geography changes specifically, like talking about Lon Lon Ranch. The location got moved and it's no longer on its fortified hill. It's the ground and matching almost geographically as Breath of the Wild. Lon Ranch Runes. The Ranch Runes. So they're cleaning up a lot of their.
Their story and, like, kind of making things match with the things that they weren't really thinking about back then and kind of just cleaning up the story and the map, which I'm pretty excited for.
[00:21:15] Speaker A: We. We don't know how in depth this is going to be. They only showed Kokiri Forest, pieces of the Deku Tree Dungeon, Hyrule Field, and not very much of it. And then Hyrule Market Town. Like, we have not seen much. And then like, snippets during a, like, very quick trailer of the rest of it.
They've also confirmed jump is an actual button this time around. So if you've played the original Ocarina of Time, the way you jumped in that game was running off an edge of a ledge and Link would auto jump. It sucks. It always sucked. It's now just gonna be on a button like it is in Breath of the Wild. Tears of the Kingdom.
Speaking of like it is in the open world ones, there is quick item swapping, so you can just quickly swap the items that in the original you had three C buttons you could put items on. Now it looks like it is one button, but you can quick swap what's on it, which is fine. Better in most cases.
We don't know how much you can quick swap. I don't know if, like, it's gonna be easy to swap between, let's say the boomerang and the slingshot in the middle of combat. We'll find out. But quick swapping has the side effect.
The most hated part of the original Ocarina of Time, the Water Temple.
We don't know if they've made changes to the actual dungeon itself, but I can tell you straight up, even if they didn't, the fact that you can quick swap items means you can. They showed in the, like, quick trailer that you can just toggle the iron boots on and off, which is 90% of what makes that dungeon horrendous.
[00:22:59] Speaker B: Did you watch any of the gameplay footage from other regions?
So some other regions got like broadcast.
They got like, like expanded gameplay, which showed a lot of that. So your D pad up is going to have confirmed is going to be your lens of truth and two other items. So whatever that's going to be. And the bottom is going to be your boots. And however, I'm sure you just select it and I did see the. Yeah, it's probably going to be your
[00:23:33] Speaker A: boots and your regular boots.
[00:23:35] Speaker B: Yeah. And then I think it'll probably be some masks. You'll probably have a bunny hood, your. Your lens of truth and whatever else at the top.
That did show a little snippet of the Water Temple. And was noticed that in the walls there was added bombable walls, which doesn't say for a whole lot, but they have done some kind of change and some kind of tweak to the dungeon.
[00:23:58] Speaker A: We know they have made changes to the dungeons, they have made changes to the world as a whole. We just don't know the extent to which they've made changes in those regards. They haven't shared the details yet. But like I said, even if the Water Temple were literally unaltered, the fact that you can quick swap the boots will reduce 90% of what made the Water Temple horrible. Because having replayed it not very long ago, 90% of what makes that horrible is the amount of pausing you have to do. It's literally if you play optimally, like 30 pauses to get through the Water Temple.
[00:24:36] Speaker B: Another thing we got was it showed mechanical changes to the boss fights, added attacks, and just changes completely to the bosses. So I'm assuming there's going to be new mechanics mixed with the old mechanics that did show like the mirror shield being able to reflect, be most lasers, which is great, which is exciting because why couldn't you do that? So they fixed that or made that. They added that. And with the mechanical changes they mentioned that time will flow everywhere, like it's not stopping when you go in the market or Kakariko, like it's time's just going to keep going.
[00:25:18] Speaker A: Presumably you can still play the ocarina song to make time advance.
We don't actually know, but presumably.
[00:25:26] Speaker B: Or you can what? Wait, you can hum it?
[00:25:29] Speaker A: Yes.
So they. They showed using the Switch 2's microphone, you can hum ocarina songs and it will play them in the game. If you have an actual ocarina and are musically inclined, you can just actually play the songs and the game will recognize them and play it. There's also a ocarina toy made by Horii that is officially licensed that plays the songs that it will recognize those and play it. Or if you use the Nintendo Switch app, you can play the songs on a virtual ocarina on your phone and it will recognize those and play it. Which is all very cool just for a. Like, this is a fun immersion thing. And also it's really hard to Remember, the actual button presses for all of the different songs in the game. But it's really easy for the ones that you use often to remember the tune to be able to just hum it.
[00:26:21] Speaker B: Yes, I'm ready to see some Speedruns on this. Just someone sitting there.
Just real quick.
[00:26:28] Speaker A: All right. For Speedrunners the buttons are always gonna be faster.
[00:26:31] Speaker B: It's just gonna be funny voice only. Speedruns.
[00:26:37] Speaker A: I mean people do blindfolded runs of the original game. It wouldn't surprise me.
[00:26:42] Speaker B: True.
Let's see what else did we. Is there anything else we haven't covered?
[00:26:47] Speaker A: Here's one that I'm excited for because I think this is a mandatory feature that every single game like this, RPGs, adventure games, anything that has any kind of open endedness to it at all should have many do.
In the Tales series they usually call this the synopsis feature. Nintendo is calling it the Threads of Time for the remake. At any point during the game you can go to the menu, go to the Threads of Time and see what have you done so far and see what your current story step is.
So if you take a break from the game for a week or a month or a year or whatever, you can load up your file and go what the fuck was I doing? And figure it out from a tool provided in the game instead of literally just having to wander the world until you stumble into a quest trigger and are able to progress that way.
[00:27:42] Speaker B: I did notice they talked about there's going to be an app for the game like Jax mentioned. There will be one for the Ocarina. They're also going to have like a bounty system for pictures where you can earn notes points and song points or something. I don't understand it completely. I won't be partaking myself.
[00:27:59] Speaker A: No.
[00:28:01] Speaker B: Because I'm just gonna be playing the game.
But yeah.
Any other thoughts on Ocarina of Time?
[00:28:09] Speaker C: I probably have to leave thoughts.
[00:28:11] Speaker A: Okay. I was gonna say I really hope that they actually have made significant changes to the parts they didn't show. I will be really disappointed if the early game is the only part that has significant enhancements, improvements and additions. And then once you get past like the second dungeon, it's just the exact same game but really pretty. And it is really pretty. To be clear.
[00:28:33] Speaker B: Yes, they did great with the Unreal Engine here.
[00:28:37] Speaker C: So if we're, if we're lucky, some of that added content will include the like couple of dungeons that they never got to make. The Temple of what? Temple of Light never got made.
[00:28:47] Speaker B: Temple Time Dungeon Yeah.
[00:28:50] Speaker C: So that's, that's the like pie in the sky. Hope is. That's one of the.
[00:28:54] Speaker B: I hope they find a.
I'm still hoping they find a use for the ice arrows instead of the like one puzzle. Niche use for.
Yeah. And it was like your last item you ever got and ever thought to go do because I never really went and did it. So I, I mean we all got lots of hopes on it.
But right now all we know is what we've went over and it's looking promising.
Get to collectathon Skatulas again.
[00:29:27] Speaker A: Yep. And also we don't have to wait very long. It comes out on November 5, 2026, which is I believe literally the anniversary of the original release. It's been what, 30 years?
28 years.
[00:29:41] Speaker B: Yeah.
I think it's also on purpose. November 5th.
Yes.
[00:29:46] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:29:46] Speaker B: Which coming back to wow, it is
[00:29:48] Speaker A: November 5th and also it's only $60. They're not pricing this at 70 or 80 like they do current brand new Switch games.
Yeah, 60 is a lot for a remake of a 30 year old game. But A, it's Ocarina time and B, this is Nintendo. They usually are charging 70 or 80.
[00:30:06] Speaker C: Yeah, they're, they're.
[00:30:08] Speaker B: The Nintendo version was 70.
If you bought it off Nintendo's website, it was 70. Amazon has $10 off for.
[00:30:16] Speaker A: You're talking physical version.
[00:30:18] Speaker B: Oh yeah, physical, yeah. Sorry. Yeah.
[00:30:21] Speaker A: Especially because of the current like silicone prices on storage. I fully expect physical versions of Switch games to simply cost more because like micro SD cards, SSDs, everything all costs more because AI has driven up the price of chips everywhere. They are offering it digitally for $60.
[00:30:40] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:30:41] Speaker B: So disappointed that we don't get any cool pre order bonuses like Canada and our other friends from over the ocean, they, they get the three spiritual stones. Canada gets a cool slip up slip cover for their game which is a box art for the original game.
[00:31:02] Speaker C: So I know we're, we're talking, we're talking Ocarina of Time, but I can't help but also go, yo. They also announced something else recently.
[00:31:13] Speaker A: Elaborate.
[00:31:14] Speaker C: You, you're the one who, who I think we're gonna be talking about this with because it's the reason I'm gonna be buying a switch too. Metroid 6.
[00:31:21] Speaker A: Yes. So they announced Metroid Ravenous which we already knew that was gonna be the title, but they gave us a date. It comes at the, at the end of January 2027. So it's literally a few months away.
It is a direct story Follow on from Dread.
We don't know how much time has passed since Dread, but my guess would be not a lot. And they're leaning into spoilers for Metroid Dread, a really good game. I highly recommend you play it. They're leaning into Samus's Metroid powers that she develops near the end of that game where she can just touch things and absorb them almost like Mega man style.
[00:32:02] Speaker C: If you, if you played that last game one. They've been very, very good about building upon the games once, you know, once someone else got a hold of it and it wasn't just Nintendo making games. They've been very good.
[00:32:18] Speaker A: As far as we're aware. It is Mercury Steam again behind this one. It looks visually exactly like Dread and not just like graphics, but in terms of like how the gameplay looked in the trailer. So if it's not Mercury Steam, I'd be real fucking shocked. But they technically haven't said yeah.
[00:32:37] Speaker C: So we're pretty hyped between the two of us for this game.
[00:32:42] Speaker A: I mean, Nintendo has proven many times that they can't make a good Metroid game themselves. I'd much rather they hire out.
[00:32:51] Speaker C: They, they have had a good franchise
[00:32:53] Speaker A: to someone who truly does care and can make a good one. Which actually I'm going to segue into the games we want to talk about. I didn't have a lot, so I had one that I'm excited about that I'm anticipating. Guys, there's a new Castlevania coming out in exactly one month from when we're recording this. Castlevania. Belmont's Curse is coming out on October 15, 2026.
And this is literally Konami hired Motion Twin and Evil Empire, the companies that made dead cells, to make a full Castlevania game. It is a complete Metroidvania. You play as the daughter of Trevor Belmont and Sypha Belnade. So the daughter of the two of the characters from Castlevania 3, or if you watched the Castlevania anime, they're the main two in the Castlevania anime.
The first one, not the new one.
And it looks fucking awesome. If you've ever played Dead Cells, you know how good those devs are at making combat feel good. And now they got to make a full bore Metroidvania Castlevania game. I'm so excited for this. I am buying this day one on my switch two of course, because I want to be able to play it portably.
[00:34:17] Speaker C: It's.
[00:34:17] Speaker B: It's gonna believe how many good games we got coming out this like this like I mean, November, we got oot.
We got wow Forever. And then, you know, Grand Theft Auto, nobody cares about that anymore.
[00:34:35] Speaker A: Okay? It's now care about that a lot. We just, the three of us don't care.
[00:34:41] Speaker B: But it's just. I keep seeing so like funny videos of like Grand Theft Auto walking around like big and strong. And then it's just like, oh, here's oot. And then here's wow forever. And they just like gang up on them. It's just. It's hilarious.
[00:34:57] Speaker C: Okay, so here's an example of just how insane this month has been. Beginning of the month, one of the games that I'm going to be talking about on my thing came out. Talk about it more there.
Onimusha Way of the sword. The first onimusha in forever.
Valheim hit 1.0. Got a massive content update.
The 10 year anniversary. And a bunch of content for both.
The 10 year anniversary for a game that pillow and I have expounded everything about for a long time.
Fuck, I just lost my name for it.
[00:35:32] Speaker B: No Man's Sky.
[00:35:33] Speaker C: No Man's Sky. Thank you. No Man's Sky.
Massive content update for that.
For the people who are weird and still play Runescape. I can't play, but I play. Wow. Runescape Got a 1.0 out today.
[00:35:45] Speaker B: We talked about a couple weeks ago, Witcher 3 remaster got announced. That's coming out six days. At the point of this Witcher 3,
[00:35:54] Speaker C: we have the one year for Borderlands. So a massive content Update for Borderlands 4.
Control resident is coming out at the end of the month. The new Silent Hill is coming out at the end of the month.
What is this month?
[00:36:09] Speaker B: A lot of these are like shadow drops that nobody was expecting. Or like very short like notice. Like, hey, this is coming out in two weeks. Have fun. See ya. No hype needed. This is your hype, which is cool. I enjoy that.
All right, Mike, you mentioned it. Borderlands 4. Tell us about it.
[00:36:27] Speaker C: All right, Borderlands 4, I.
I caved when I saw that it's. It's one year anniversary came out. And so for one year anniversary it went on a straight up 50% off sale for everything that there is to it. Which means that you can buy every ounce of content that has released for it up to and including two DLC expansions and the the new Vault Hunters. All for slightly less than the base game cost when it first came out.
So I went, fuck it. I'll spend $70 to get a Borderlands game that has very good mechanics and has been worked on for a year. I've. I like Borderlands gameplay. So let's do it. Fuck, it's fun. Fuck, it's fun.
I was talking about how really fun Tiny Tina's was when I started playing that. Man, Borderlands 4 has got that thing beat down fucking hard. Open world is basically what Borderlands has always been.
So making it a true open world. I don't see why everyone was complaining. Making it slightly less linear. Eh. It's not that unlinear. Like you can just go do side quests. You were always able to do that another game. In the other games you just now have a couple of choices before you go back into the linear. It's not like full.
Completely open to interpretation. Grab whatever the fuck you want.
That feels disingenuous to say, but it is straight up. Yeah. You wanna. You wanna play? You got options. You have so much content to play. The new characters are insanely fun to play.
I've had a huge fun time playing the new characters named Loveless.
I'm going through the for the main campaign still, but I'm 15, 20 hours into the game and I'm like maybe a third, not even a third of the way through the campaign, I think. So that depends on if you're doing a bunch of side quest shit. You know how these games work.
So it's. It's been fun. As I highly recommend, if you are a Borderlands fan, I would put this.
I don't think any Borderlands game is ever going to reach where Borderlands 2 was again.
That was a golden single shining moment. The story was fantastic, the humor was perfect and it wasn't overplayed. I would put this between one and a Tiny Tina's adventures for me in the like Tiny Dinner's Wonderland. It's not quite as perfect on the humor as Tiny Dinner's Wonderland was for me, but I'm a D and D player in tiny DNA's Wonderland just was perfect for me. They made all the perfect references in my personal genre, so I was really happy with that.
But I had a huge blast playing it and I think everyone else will too. If you're a Borderlands fan, give it a shot.
[00:39:25] Speaker B: Right on. All right, Jax.
[00:39:27] Speaker A: All right. So in addition to my usual League of Legends and Path of Exile that I'm not going to really expound on this time around, I finished the Yuffie side campaign of Final Fantasy VII remake Intermission and started Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.
So without spoiling anything, the Yuffie side campaign definitely feels like an extra thrown together. It's not very long.
It's only two chapters, whereas I think seven fidden remake was 18 chapters.
Chapters are similar length to the main game, so it's like a ninth the size of the main game.
The minigame that it added was weird, mostly because the minigame it's based on from the original PS1 game shouldn't have shown up yet, timeline wise, because I haven't been to that location yet. So I don't know what Rebirth is going to do when I get to that location because I haven't gotten there yet. But it'll happen during the part of the timeline that Rebirth covers. And I don't know what they're going to do with that. I don't know if it's just going to have the minigame from the Yuffie side campaign in the first game.
What they're gonna do voice acting exceptional in even just the Yuffie side thing. Alex Lee voices your like sidekick character. He's amazing.
I think Susie Young is the voice actress for Yuffie. She's really good. Like they got actual like talented anime and video game voice actors for this. Whereas I complained a little bit that the main cast was relatively unknown prior to Final Fantasy VII remake.
So I finished that, which meant it was time to start Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, the second remake game. And off the bat, I was a little surprised.
This does not do the import your save file and will carry over stuff from the first game the way like Mass Effect does, which is what I thought it would do. These are completely separate standalone games where if you have save files from remake or intermission, you get one bonus materia, one of the summons, basically. And that's it. That's. That's the only difference other than you played the first one and know what the hell's going on instead of having to watch the recap to. And it does have a recap to get you up to speed if you wanted to start with Rebirth for some reason.
But Rebirth starts off right after the end of the first one. You're out of Midgar because the first one is just Midgar.
That's not even a spoiler. It was always advertised as it's just Midgar.
So Rebirth starts off with the events immediately following when you escape Midgar. And I'm gonna reference the original game a little bit. Pillow, I know you haven't played this yet. I promise these are not spoilers that will matter for you because I'm not going to go in any kind of
[00:42:24] Speaker B: detail, but I'll probably forget them anyway.
[00:42:26] Speaker A: Right?
So if you've played the original game, you know that when they leave Midgar, your party gets together. And Cloud and to some extent Tifa, tell the group about the story of when Sephiroth went mad and became a villain.
Because for context, in the world of Final Fantasy vii, Sephiroth was a war hero. He was a widely revered heroic figure until events five years ago where the propaganda from the Shinra Corporation was that he died in action. But in actuality he committed some heinous fucking crimes and became the villain of the franchise like he is the villain of Final Fantasy VII.
So Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth starts with Cloud and Tifa telling the story of these events five years ago that led to Sephiroth becoming the villain. And if you've played the original, it plays out mostly exactly the same as it did in the original. There's no major changes to the story whatsoever here, but it's well done, it's well executed. They kept details they didn't need to keep. You can still, during this flashback sequence, go into Tifa's room and look through her underwear drawer if you want. You can play Tifa's piano if you want.
And I was surprised. It has a full on interface for you to like with your controller. Try to manipulate all the different like sets of piano keys and I could. I'm not musically inclined. I couldn't have played it even if it was an intuitive interface. But holy shit, that was overwhelming. I'm sure someone out there has like played actual music on this with their controller, with their keyboard, as if they were actually playing a piano. It is capable of that. I'm just not. But I thought that was a neat little detail to throw in.
They did a good job of recreating the iconic scene of Sephiroth in with Flames.
That is like it was an FMV in the original game and it is like the iconic Sephiroth villain scene. You've probably seen the original if you've been on the Internet. It's. It's that iconic. They did a good job of recreating that in the remake. And then that's about where I stopped is I finished the. The flashback sequence. I've done a little bit of like running around and talking to people in town afterwards. I'm in Chapter two.
There's a new card game which is clearly their attempt to try to make Final Fantasy 7's version of triple Triad or Tetra Master. I'm not sure if I like it or not.
It's weird. It's like a mix of Triple Triads like number combat and also like kind of territory control.
It's not bad, just weird.
I'll have more opinions on it when I've played it more because the starter cards are really weak and make it kind of frustrating.
But yeah. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is fun so far. Remake was fun.
Final Fantasy VII so far has set the bar for what a video game remake can be. I think it is just straight up the best remake of a game I've ever seen.
[00:45:47] Speaker B: What order are you supposed to play
[00:45:48] Speaker A: these in Final Fantasy vii? Remake.
Remake on right. Remake Intergrade is Remake.
Intergrade is the PS5 or PC version. Includes the Yuffie side story that I mentioned I beat.
So the Yuffie side story you're intended to play after you've beaten the main game.
So both of those, then Rebirth and then next year when it comes out. Revelations.
[00:46:15] Speaker B: You want to know something funny?
[00:46:16] Speaker A: What's that?
[00:46:17] Speaker B: I started with Rebirth and that's probably why I was confused
[00:46:23] Speaker A: because you started like the.
[00:46:26] Speaker C: The.
[00:46:26] Speaker A: The events so far recap.
[00:46:28] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:46:29] Speaker A: That didn't clue you in?
[00:46:30] Speaker B: I was trying.
Well, like I told you, I played like the Final Fantasy VII way back on the PlayStation and I'm sitting here trying to, like, connect these. I was like, I don't remember this at all because I never made it to this.
Like, I. I didn't make it to this point on PlayStation. I got stuck at the Astronomy Tower as whatever. And you're sitting there talking about, like, Sephiroth's backstory and the flashback and I. Huh, that sounds really familiar. And I love it.
[00:46:59] Speaker A: Literally. So it's called the Nibelheim Incident on the, like, Final Fantasy Wiki. It is like.
It is the most important scene in the story of Final Fantasy 7 because it's literally. It lays the groundwork for, like, Sephiroth's backstory and why he's a villain. It's character building and world building for both Cloud and Tifa explains, like, their motivations. And it sets up other stuff that I don't want to get into because I don't want to spoil it. Like, the Nibelheim Incident is the most important event in the. In Final Fantasy 7's canon.
[00:47:34] Speaker B: They should have just named this Final Fantasy Remake Part 1 and Part 2.
[00:47:41] Speaker A: They're Japanese. They're never going to do that.
So Remake, Rebirth and Revelation, I think is the third.
[00:47:49] Speaker B: We're not ever going to. They're not ever going to mess with it. Mike me. You look like you're struggling over there. So let's. Let's. Let's get you back in here interacting.
[00:47:58] Speaker C: I'll do that for you. So I also hinted when we were talking about games that came out this month with another game.
Let me set the stage for why this game is interesting before I talk about it.
If you were at all interested in Witcher 3 and how amazing that was. The Quest the lead Designer for the Witcher 3 is the lead designer for this game.
He talked to his pal who was the lead quest designer for Cyberpunk 2077 and brought him in and a bunch of other now formerly AKCD Project Red members. They formed a company together and created the Blood of dawnwalker which is awesome. It's awesome. It is a vampire game that I have been waiting for a very long time for. Vampire games are very hit or miss. I talked about how I love them. I've been playing Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines.
It was very fun game but it was not what a lot of people thought it was because it wasn't a it wasn't a Bloodlines game. It was just a vampire game.
This game is it's not as light hearted as Witcher can be.
The the world that it's created is very dark, but it's it's atmosphere, its feel, it's play.
The Blood of dawnwalker is so well designed in its two stages to make you want to play it. So the the basic premise of the game is you are a dawnwalker, a person who is a human during the day and a vampire at night. That is key because it means half the time you don't get awesome vampire shenanigan powers. You're stuck as a human. And its combat is incredibly I wouldn't say it's intuitive because it takes a little bit to get used to, but it's immersive. You are worried about positioning in how people are doing attacks so how they're doing wind up movements.
The granularity for difficulty can be the no. You no longer have any hints on how things are going. You're watching body language to watch which side of their movement I need to parry for things like blocking and parrying.
But then you get into the nighttime and now I'm teleporting across the field and ripping someone's throat out. That has always felt good.
That's just this fun power fantasy with vampire games that you get to play with. But then it also has a very dark, very immersive storyline that I don't want to talk too much about.
If you watched any of the trailers, you saw the basics of it. You you Have a plague riddled medieval town straight up taken over by vampires and they don't charge you taxes anymore. They're not taking care of money or anything. You just need to donate blood once a month or once a week. I don't remember the number.
And how do people live in this kind of world? What will people start to think?
Will they take over religion and become the new God? Figures of becomes very interesting. And it already sold a million copies by the ninth, so it's doing well and I'm very happy to see it. But I highly recommend this. I probably haven't done a great job of selling it. Take a look at the trailer and take a look at a quick gameplay thing. If it at all meets a fancy for you, go for it.
[00:51:36] Speaker B: You just got to tell me. Like Witcher and.
[00:51:39] Speaker C: Oh, yeah, no.
The guys who made the Witcher and the quest designer for Cyberpunk 2077 made this game, which, as you may remember from Jax talking About this, Cyberpunk 2077 is one of your favorite RPGs of all time. And the quest design on that is part of that. I don't think Jack's heard me.
[00:51:55] Speaker A: Sorry, say again.
[00:51:57] Speaker C: I was saying 2077, cyberpunk is one of your favorite games of all time. And part of that is the quest design and the storytelling through that.
[00:52:05] Speaker A: I mean, I don't know about one of my favorite games of all time, but it's a lot of fun. I have like a hundred hours on it.
[00:52:11] Speaker C: Fair. So when you hear that the quest designer, the guy who made something that actively is what got you into that game, is in another one. Yeah, that's really compelling.
[00:52:24] Speaker A: Is it going to have the character writing of cyberpunk? Because that's what made cyberpunk for me so far.
[00:52:29] Speaker C: The character writing.
[00:52:30] Speaker A: The character writing is the most important thing so far.
[00:52:35] Speaker C: Yes. I don't know. I'm not as far into cyberpunk as you were, so I don't know the depth of that as much as you do.
[00:52:43] Speaker A: Okay. Have you at least played through the first act of Cyberpunk 2077?
[00:52:49] Speaker C: I need to go back and play more Cyberpunk 2077. I realize I have not finished that act.
[00:52:53] Speaker A: Cyberpunk 2077 starts out with you basically having a character named Jackie pointing a gun at your head.
[00:53:00] Speaker C: Oh, it's so fun.
[00:53:01] Speaker A: Yeah, like within the first couple minutes. And the character writing. When I say that, what I mean is stuff like the way that over the course of missions, Jackie goes from this guy who's kind of an asshole who's clearly just there to get the story going to like, literally your best friend that you care about so much.
[00:53:20] Speaker C: One of your favorite characters.
[00:53:21] Speaker A: Yeah, I am being deliberately vague because I don't want to spoil the events of Cyberpunk 2077, but that's what I mean when I say character writing. Cyberpunk made me fucking cry. With multiple different storylines because of the way they handle different characters and the events surrounding them and the characters around them to where it feels like a living, breathing world.
[00:53:48] Speaker C: I did forget this is a game with quest consequence in that you physically cannot do every quest in one run. Things take up time. You have a limit.
There is a time mechanic, which is part of the main gist of this game.
You have a deadline to win the game by which you should be more than strong enough long before that deadline comes. But certain things use up time and advance time and certain things don't. So you can do side quests as long as they don't have visibly noticeable things that tell you time advances.
When time advances, some things get locked out, which means you're no longer able to do everything in the game. Or certain things are. You need to get this done before X amount of date or something's going to happen because you didn't have time to stop it because you decided to do something else instead.
So it is dynamic in that sense as well. I really.
[00:54:50] Speaker B: I'm gonna. I'm gonna check it out. I'll probably wait for a sale or something. Pick it up. It's $70 game. So yeah, I don't like spending $70 on a digital game if I don't have to.
[00:55:00] Speaker C: Understandable. This is their first game as a company, but so like, I'm very up in the. I would very be happily to pay this to help them get their ass off the ground.
[00:55:12] Speaker B: If. If I can find that it's. If I get it and I'm like, wow, this game's awesome, then I will have no problem buying their games in the future for full price. You know what I mean? Like, I kind of. $70 is a lot for me to risk on a game that I might not like, which I'm sure I will.
[00:55:31] Speaker C: That's a fair initial assessment if you're not.
[00:55:34] Speaker B: But you know, Steam is pretty generous with their.
With their refunds as far as like within the two hour. Like they don't really question it. But in a game like this, it takes a lot more than two hours to get to the meat and potatoes of it. So we'll see I'll just keep an eye on it. Steam sale doesn't necessarily take money out of their pocket. So I have one more thing I want to bring up, and I meant to bring it up the last time.
One thing that I have been getting into in my real life, and this is not game related at all, is I have been getting into small engine repair and teaching myself how to fully repair mowers that are just junk and bringing them back to life and selling them.
And I've been enjoying it. It's fun. It's like a. It's puzzle. It's like a puzzle. And I find myself sitting outside. Like today I sat outside for like two hours and it was 100 degrees and like I barely even noticed. So I just put a fan on, I listen to music and the next thing I know, two, three hours went by just really enjoying it. So it's one more thing that's been going on in my life. I was going to talk about Warcraft 3 here, but we talked about it plenty during the Blizzcon discussion.
Do you guys have anything else you want to bring up or.
Well, they're saying no, so that's gonna make it for this episode. Guys, thanks for tuning in.
If you want join our discord again, tell us what you're. If you're excited about these games coming out and what you think and are there any games that are coming out that we missed that you want to talk about?
You can find us on Twitch. I'm sure there'll be some streaming of these games soon coming up.
[00:57:21] Speaker A: I'm. I'm so thankful these games aren't all literally coming out at the same time. I will have enough time to play Belmont's Curse before Ocarina of Time comes out.
[00:57:31] Speaker C: Oh God. We didn't even mention Silksong. Supposed to be coming out soon with it in DLC too. And who knows when.
[00:57:37] Speaker A: Yeah, we don't mention it's coming.
[00:57:41] Speaker B: That being said, we do have Twitches and I'm sure these games will be getting streamed when they come up.
So we got Twitch tv, Jacksonman, Twitch tv, Mike of many names, and myself, Twitch tv, Pillow Pet, go check us out.
That'll do it for tonight guys. Thanks for listening. Have a good night.
[00:58:02] Speaker A: Bye bye.
[00:58:03] Speaker C: Good night everybody.
